Cubes and Brackets for 25 mm Rails

  • Build Right-Angled Structures and Enclosures
  • Construction Cubes Create Rigid Corners and Joints
  • Brackets Provide Reinforcement and Breadboard Compatibility

Features

  • High-Strength Plastic or Aluminum Cubes Form Rigid Connections
  • Right-Angle Bracket Reinforces Corners
  • Low-Profile Screws Fasten Cubes to Rail Ends

XE25 Cubes and Brackets are designed to orient our 25 mm rails at right angles in two or three dimensions.

Construction Cubes
Our construction cubes create rigid corners and joints in 25 mm rail assemblies. The RM1G Counterbored Construction Cube and XE25W3 Quick Corner Cube, which are fabricated from anodized aluminum and high-strength plastic, respectively, hold up to three XE25 rails at right angles. In contrast, the RM1F(/M) Tapped Construction Cube is an anodized aluminum block that accommodates up to six XE25 rails.

Right-Angle Bracket
The XE25A90 Right-Angle Bracket contains two through holes that connect 25 mm rails at a right angle and can be used to brace a rail corner. The bracket is ideally suited for extending existing rail constructions into three dimensions.

Low-Profile Channel Screws
Our Low-Profile Channel Screws feature a shortened cap height, which is useful in situations with limited space. For example, in our construction cubes, standard cap screws installed in neighboring faces would interfere with each other. As shown to the left, low-profile channel screws leave the neighboring through holes clear.

our accessories for assemblies made of 25 mm rails include corner cubes and brackets, T-Nuts, low-profile channel screws, breadboard mounting accessories, and rail joiners. In addition, we offer optical enclosures, enclosure accessories, and "do-it-yourself" tools like taps, tap guides, and drill guides for home-built XE25-based constructions.

Counterbored Construction Cube for 25 mm Rails

  • Holds up to Three Rails at Right Angles
  • One-Piece Aluminum Construction for Excellent Rigidity
  • Parallel and Perpendicular to Within 0.002" (0.05 mm)

The RM1G Construction Cube contains three 1/4" (M6) counterbores on adjacent faces. It can be connected to up to three rails by tightening our Low-Profile Channel Screws (sold at the bottom of this page) through the counterbores, as shown in the image to the right. Since it is machined from a single block of aluminum, it is ideal for constructions that need the highest available degree of sturdiness.

If compatibility with more than three rails is needed, or if rails are to be placed on opposing faces, please consider the RM1F Construction Cube shown below.

Quick Corner Cube for 25 mm Rails

  • Holds up to Three Rails at Right Angles
  • Made from High-Strength Reinforced Plastic

The dowels on the faces of an XE25W3 Quick Corner Cube are positioned to fit into the four alignment holes on the end of a 25 mm rail. After inserting the dowels, our Low-Profile Channel Screws (sold at the bottom of this page) are used to fasten the corner cube to the rail, as shown in the image to the right.

Although these corner cubes provide excellent results when building enclosures, they are not recommended in cases where rails are being used to support optomechanics. In these situations, please use the RM1F or RM1G Construction Cubes shown below or above, or consider the techniques shown in the Construction Methods tab.

Tapped Construction Cube for 25 mm Rails

  • Holds up to Six Rails at Right Angles
  • One-Piece Aluminum Construction for Excellent Rigidity
  • Parallel and Perpendicular to Within 0.002" (0.05 mm)

The RM1F(/M) Construction Cube contains a centered 1/4"-20 (M6) tapped hole on all six sides. It can be connected to up to six 25 mm rails by using setscrews. Since it is machined from a single block of aluminum, it is ideal for constructions that need the highest available degree of sturdiness.

Please note that since the rail end and the RM1F are internally threaded, significant effort is required to make the rail end flush with the faces of the cube. For connecting rails at a right angle, we recommend the RM1G Construction Cube, XE25W3 Corner Cube, or XE25A90 Right-Angle Bracket (all sold on this page), since these parts fasten to the rail end with a through hole.

Right-Angle Bracket for 25 mm Rails

  • Brace 25 mm Rail Corners or Mount Rails Vertically
  • One-Piece Aluminum Construction for Excellent Rigidity
  • Parallel and Perpendicular to Within 0.002" (0.05 mm)

The XE25A90 Right-Angle Bracket fastens to 25 mm rails by using a 1/4"-20 (M6) cap screw and a T-Nut (not included) with the through hole located on the bottom or the side.

These mounts are ideal for fastening our optical enclosures to an optical table or breadboard.

Low-Profile Channel Screws

  • Sold in Boxes of 100 Screws
  • SH25LP38: 1/4"-20 Threading, 1/8" Hex Head
  • SH6M10LP: M6 Threading, 4 mm Hex Head

Our Low-Profile Channel Screws have a reduced cap height relative to standard screws, permitting them to be used in tight spaces. In particular, they are recommended when neighboring screws are at a right angle and in close proximity, as in our XE25W3 Corner Cube or RM1G Construction Cube.

Shown to the right are a standard cap screw and a low-profile channel screw installed in an RM1G cube. The low-profile screw's shortened cap height prevents neighboring screws from interfering with each other.
