Thorlabs’ solid stainless steel posts are a basic building block required in most rigid constructions.  The precision-ground Ø1/2" (12.7 mm) posts, which are fabricated from nonmagnetic 303 stainless steel, are compatible with our Ø1/2" post holders and construction accessories. A bottom-located 1/4"-20 (M6) tapped hole and top-located 8-32 (M4) removable mounting stud provide compatibility with virtually all of our optic mounts. The 8-32 (M4) removable stud provides additional flexibility by allowing 8-32 (M4) cap screws to be used with our universal mounts. For convenience, a Ø1/8” hole is provided to slip a 5/64" (2.5 mm) balldriver through the post for extra leverage when tightening components. A wide range of post lengths is available, ranging from 0.75” (20 mm) to 12” (300 mm).

These nonmagnetic stainless steel posts are precision ground to Ø1/2". One end has a 1/4"-20 tapped hole, while the other end has a removable 8-32 threaded stud. A side-located Ø0.13" (Ø3.1 mm) hole is bored straight through the post; a balldriver can be inserted through the hole to provide extra leverage when tightening mounted components. To reduce packaging waste, we offer our most popular sizes in packs of five.

 

Ø12.7 mm Stainless Steel Optical Posts - Metric


  * One M4 Tapped Hole at Top and One M6 Tapped Hole at Base

These nonmagnetic stainless steel posts are precision ground to Ø12.7 mm. One end has an M6 tapped hole, while the other end has a removable M4-threaded stud. To easily distinguish these metric posts from their imperial counterparts featured above, the metric posts have an extra ring-shaped groove at the upper end of the post. A side-located Ø0.13" (Ø3.1 mm) hole is bored straight through the post; a balldriver can be inserted through the hole to provide extra leverage when tightening mounted components. To reduce packaging waste, we offer our most popular sizes in packs of five.

 

Ø1/2" (Ø12.7 mm) Graduated Stainless Steel Optical Posts

These are identical to our Ø1/2" TR posts above, but feature an engraved scale along their side. This scale provides a means to quickly and accurately align optics to your optical axis. A removable 8-32 (M4) mounting stud at the top of each post is compatible with many components such as fixed optic mounts, while a 1/4"-20 (M6) tap is on the other end of the post for mounting larger components.

 

Ø12 mm Stainless Steel Optical Posts

These nonmagnetic stainless steel posts, which are especially designed for our Japanese customers, are precision ground to Ø12 mm. The Ø12 mm Posts are compatible with our PH-Series of Post Holders and all Ø1/2" TR related products. One end has an M6 tapped hole, while the other end has a removable M4-threaded stud

 

Ø1/2" (Ø12.7 mm) Translating Optical Posts


  * Provides 0.25" (6.4 mm) of Travel
  * 0.04" (1 mm) Travel per Revolution of Adjustment Ring

  * Lockable Design with Non-Rotating Tip

The TRT2 translating post has been designed to provide quick, stable height adjustment of a mounted component within an optical setup. Utilizing a knurled collet, the TRT2 can translate ±0.13" (±3 mm) from its nominal position via 0.04 (1 mm) translation per revolution. When fully compressed, the post is 2.01" (50.1 mm) and a maximum length of 2.26" (57.4 mm). Once the desired height is achieved, the TRT2 can be locked into place with a locking ring. Both the adjustment collar and locking ring have diameters slightly smaller than the post diameter, allowing the entire post to pass through all of our Ø1/2" construction accessories without interference.

 

Ø1/2" (Ø12.7 mm) Optical Construction Posts

 

  • Counterbored and Tapped Posts for Constructing Custom Mounting Configurations
  • TR3C (TR75C/M): Five #8 (M4) Counterbores
  • TR3T (TR75T/M): Three 8-32 (M4) Tapped Holes

These TR posts are designed for mounting optomechanical components in non-standard configurations. By using a combination of a tapped construction post along with a counterbored construction post, components can be mounted at an arbitrary angle to keep your beam path unobstructed. The TR3C (TR75C/M) offers five #8 (M4) counterbores and a mounting flat while the TR3T (TR75T/M) offers three 8-32 (M4) tapped holes and a mounting flat. The posts can be combined by using an 8-32 (M4) cap screw. Additionally, a single post may be used to mount an optomechanical component on its side using the mounting flat on each post (see image to the right).
